According to Live Science, pigeons don’t actually bob their heads! What we perceive as a bobbing motion is the bird moving its head forward by about 2 inches and then waiting for its body to follow. While walking, a pigeon will perform this motion 5-8 times a second! They do this to help stabilize their vision, otherwise they’d view their surroundings (while moving) as one big blur.
